Roofers · Lévis and Quebec City's South Shore

“It's got a 25-year warranty” means almost nothing.

Three different things are called a “warranty” on a roof. They don't cover the same failures, and two of them have already expired for most people who call us. The decoder below tells you which one applies to you — including when the answer is “none of them.”

Four numbers to know before you call anyone

$6 to $12/sq ft

Asphalt shingle re-roofing, installed, in Quebec in 2026.

15 to 25 years

Real service life of a standard shingle — not the number printed on the bundle.

5 years

Legal warranty against loss of the work (art. 2118 CCQ). A matter of public order: nobody can waive it.

$0

Labour paid by the manufacturer once the firm protection period has run out.

The block no roofer around here has

Warranty decoder

Five questions. We work out what the manufacturer actually owes you, what the law requires of us, and what belongs to your insurer instead. The answer is often disappointing — which is precisely why we publish it.

The current shingles, not the house.
The only part that is not prorated. It is written in the warranty document, not on the wrapper. 5 years on economy lines, 15 years on most mainstream lines.
Environment Canada publishes gusts by station. It can be checked.

Roof age : 14 years

What applies to you

Manufacturer's warranty

Covered

You are still inside the firm protection period. It is the only phase where a manufacturer may pay labour on top of the shingles — and only with the makers that offer it: several exclude labour from day one.

Contractor's legal warranty

Expired

After five years the law no longer holds us liable. We will still fix it — but it is billed, and we say so before we climb.

Home insurance

Does not apply

Normal wear is never a claim. No insurer pays for a roof that simply reached the end of its life.

What we would do

In practice: the claim is worth filing. You need the original invoice, the exact product name and dated photographs. We will assemble the file with you, whether or not we installed the roof.

One thing never changes: an installation that does not follow the manufacturer's instructions voids its warranty entirely. It is the first exclusion at all three big makers, and it is why the number of nails per shingle is checked on the roof, not on the quote.

What we do

Four services, four price ranges

The ranges below are the ones published for Quebec in 2026. A serious quote lands inside them; a quote at half the price is hiding something, and so is one at double.

Asphalt shingle re-roofing

$6 to $12/sq ft, installed

Full tear-off, eave membrane, underlayment, new flashings, ventilation reviewed. Slope, number of storeys and the state of the sheathing explain the spread between $6 and $12 — not the shingle brand.

Flat roof, elastomeric membrane

$11 to $23/sq ft

Two torched plies, wall upstands, drains and curbs redone. The price climbs fast if a crane is needed or the insulation is saturated — both are visible before, not after.

Spot repairs and flashings

from $450

A valley, a chimney flashing, a leaking vent, a few torn shingles. Half the roofs we are asked to replace need only this — and we say so, even when it costs us the job.

Sheathing and ventilation

$75 to $120 per sheet · vents $250 to $500

Replacing rotten sheets and correcting attic ventilation. It is the one line nobody can honestly price in advance: we put it on the quote as a unit price, never as a lump sum.

Indicative prices for a demo. The ranges come from the 2026 Quebec pricing guides cited in the README.

Post-storm inspection

Half the calls after a storm come to nothing. We would rather tell you that on the phone.

Granules in the gutter are not a claim: a shingle sheds them its whole life. Neither is a branch on the ground. What matters is what is missing from the roof and what got into the attic.

1

The call, same day

We ask for the date of the event, what you see on the ground and whether there is a ceiling stain. Three questions are often enough to conclude there is nothing.

2

Tarping, if water is coming in

We tarp and we leave. Nobody makes you sign a re-roofing in the rain — a roofer who offers that the same evening is a red flag, ours included.

3

The climb, with a camera

Dated photographs of the missing areas, the flashings, the valley and the attic through the hatch. That file is what your insurer wants, not our opinion.

4

The written report, within 48 hours

Two pages: what is damaged, what is not, the probable cause, and whose bill it is. You get it whether or not you hire us.

The storm-season red flag

A roofer knocking the day after a storm, offering to “cover your deductible” or asking for a cash deposit before the claim is even opened: that is the classic post-storm fraud. A deductible paid by the contractor is a false statement to the insurer — and you are the one signing.

Before / after

What we repair, drawn rather than photographed

A roof photo taken from the ground shows almost nothing, and one taken from the roof cannot be compared between houses. The drawing below is the same roof before and after: drag to move from one to the other.

  1. 1

    Rusted valley

The galvanised steel valley rots from underneath, where water sits under the snow. Replaced with a standing-seam aluminium valley.

  2. 2

    Cracked chimney flashing

The original flashing is sealed with caulk. The caulk is ten years younger than the roof. Replaced with a counter-flashing set into the mortar joint.

  3. 3

    Lifted shingles at the rake

Two nails instead of four at the rake, and wind uplift does the rest. Relaid with a drip edge and a bead of rake adhesive.

  4. 4

    Attic with no exhaust

Intake soffits, no exhaust vent: warm air stays put and cooks the shingle from underneath. It is the single most common warranty exclusion.

A technical drawing, not a job-site photo: Pureau is a fictional business and has no job sites to show. The four defects illustrated are, however, the four most common on 15- to 25-year-old Quebec roofs.

RBQ licence

Check us before you let us up there

Four checks, ten minutes, and none of them requires our permission.

The right subcategory

For roofing it is subcategory 7.0, “Entrepreneur en isolation, étanchéité, couvertures et revêtement extérieur.” A general licence 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.2 or 1.3 also works. A licence that covers neither should not be on your roof.

The number, on all three documents

Ten digits, and it must appear on the quote, on the contract and on the invoice. Not just on the truck.

The public registry

The RBQ registry is online and free. A suspended or restricted licence shows up immediately, and it is the piece of information most often missing when things go wrong.

CNESST and liability insurance

The CNESST compliance certificate and civil liability insurance valid for the duration of the work. Without both, an accident on your roof becomes your problem.

And for this demo

The number shown below is a string of zeros. It leads nowhere in the registry, because Pureau does not exist. That is deliberate: a demo must never be mistakable for a real contractor.

Tell us what you are seeing

We answer within one business day. If the answer is “this can wait two years,” that is the one you get.

A rough guess is fine.
A ceiling stain, shingles on the ground, another roofer's quote you want checked — all of it helps.

Demo form: nothing is transmitted.
